LOCATION & DIRECTIONS

Located in the heart of Puget sound, rural Vashon Island is a quick, beautiful ferry ride from Seattle, Tacoma or the Olympic Peninsula. About the size of Manhattan, Vashon is home to artist studios, small farms, beautiful scenery and about 10,500 residents.

Ferries
Vashon is an island accessible only by boat. Car ferries run from Tacoma on the south end, Seattle and Southworth (the Peninsula) on the north end. There is also a passenger-only ferry on the north end that takes commuters to and from downtown Seattle during the week. Ferry costs vary by season. Rates are lower for children and senior citizens. Visit the fare page of the Washington State Ferries website to select your route and find your rate. You can even purchase tickets online — it may save you a few minutes in a ferry line.

The Washington State Ferries website lists schedules, crossing times, costs and maps of all routes. If you are coming from south of Tacoma (or near Tacoma) take the Pt. Defiance - Tahlequah ferry (Tahlequah is the name of the dock on the south end of Vashon). If you are coming from the greater Seattle area (or north) the Fauntleroy - Vashon route in West Seattle. If you are coming from the Peninsula, the Southworth - Vashon route. You can also take a look at the downtown Seattle passenger–only ferry schedule that runs during the week.

Transportation
You can get to and around on the island by public transportation, but you will probably prefer to have a car. The busses stop running fairly early in the evening and are not very plentiful in the farther reaches of the island.
